Working primarily in graphite, Selina's work juxtaposes traditional realism with illustration and pattern to create narratives that explore the complexities of identity: photorealistic elements are contrasted with illustrative symbolism to express a nuanced representation of each subject by focusing on qualities that are not always visible to the naked eye – their memories, resilience and personal histories. This dual approach invites viewers to reflect on the evolving and sometimes contradictory ways in which identity is constructed, understood, and expressed. By weaving these symbolic elements into her portraits, Selina aims to encourage viewers to reflect on the individual experiences that shape who we are.
Selina has exhibited with the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Scottish Academy, and was shortlisted for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize - the UK’s preeminent open drawing exhibition. Her work is held in a number of private collections and has been included in a number of publications, including in an educational book on contemporary drawing methods published by Thames & Hudson. Selina was artist in residence at Trinity Art Studios in January 2025.
